Upon owning a 96 CD5 Accord for just over a year now, I’ve always noticed there’s been some hesitation when accelerating which seems to depend on throttle load, because it doesn’t happen all the time.  I chaulked this to a much needed tune-up  ie. new spark plugs, wires, and oil change.
Well, I did all that recently, and the problem still persists. It’s actually getting on my nerves now. An example of what happens is if I’m jumping on the freeway on ramp and being hard on the throttle (going from 2nd to 3rd gear) there will be a slight dip/loss of power right around 2500rpm-3500rpm.
Google being my best friend, found me this way-way informative EGR Port Cleaning Article that explains in detail what happens in this scenerio, with some excellent photos. Apparently, the EGR ports get clogged up from intake build up, which is the cause of this  hesitation upon acceleration, and need to be cleared out.
On the two forums I found this PDF link from, it was mentioned that the stealership can charge $170 onwards to perform this EGR port cleaning job. F that. Â So, Â if you’re a DIY guy like myself, clean it yourself and save that money for something else 😎
